Snowboarding Arizona

Snowboarding in Arizona Might  be Limited, but Is Amazing at Times

When the snow falls so much that you get over a foot of the fresh white fluffy stuff, I don't think anyone could care too much about where they're riding, regardless if that place is an hour away from the desert or an hour away from a downtown area. What I'm trying to say is that snowboarding is an escape. When we snowboard we focus on the beauty and bounty of snow before us, we let go of the past and don't care about the future, we're caught up in the here and now.

If you've ever spent time to ride in Arizona you know that there are two major resorts to hit up: Sunrise and Snowbowl. Everyone forms their own opinions about the two and I'm not about to tell you to go change yours, but if you want my opinion, I'd have to tell you to go to Sunrise. So for now I'll list the reasons why I think that Sunrise is better and give some of the reasons others may prefer Snowbowl.

For some reason or another, even though Sunrise doesn't have as much latitude or altitude as Snowbowl does, Sunrise will always end up receiving more snow, and if you're looking to snowboard I don't know what's wrong with . This abundance of snow also results in the park being more built up in terms of features and sizes of features. Some will say that Snowbowl has a g

If you would like to ride outside of Snowbowl and Sunrise here's a little blurb about Tucson.

Few people think of snow and skiing when they think of Tucson. Cactus, desert, and diamondbacks more readily come to mind. The Santa Catalina Mountains, however, is home to the southernmost ski area in the United States, which is perched near the 9,157-foot summit of Mt. Lemmon. Ski runs are usually open from mid-December to early April, depending on winter weather and snowfall.
Located just an hour's drive from the sun drenched resorts of Tucson, area visitors can go golfing, swimming and downhill skiing in the same day.

Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley offers ski equipment rentals, instruction, the Iron Door Restaurant, a snack bar, and gift shop. Overnight accomodations are available in the nearby village of Summerhaven.

The chair lift is in operation all year round, taking visitors to a high overlook from which they can enjoy views of the Santa Catalinas, the city of Tucson, the San Pedro Valley, the Reef of Rocks, and the distant mountains near Globe and Phoenix. These scenic views, combined with the many trails and overlooks in the area, and the Iron Door Restaurant make this a popular place to visit in any season.

ELK RIDGE

Unfortunately I've never rode at Elk Ridge, but if you're that close to Snowbowl I would recommend going that route instead of Elk Ridge.
